Sketchbook cats and monoprints

January 18, 2013

Here’s some of the latest things I’ve been making. In December I made these drawings in my sketchbook of some of the cats, from life.

Benji drawing

Not easy unless they’re asleep. Hence the awake cat above (who was sitting on my lap purring and pestering me for attention during the sketching) looks distorted compared with the sleeping cat below!

Sooty drawing

This January I’ve also started making monoprints as a form of drawing again, something I haven’t done in a couple of years and have really missed. It was one of my favourite processes that I learned back in Art Foundation, and used a lot within my degree too. It’s a very direct, simple one-off printmaking method to utilise drawing.

Monoprints

Here are some of the prints hanging to dry! I’ve also been working on an oil painting of one of my cats, bit ridiculously kitsch and a fun experiment to getting back into painting!
